'Lack of Sanitary pads forces girls to use unhygienic alternatives.'

Millions of girls and women have their lives on hold – for five to seven days each month – due to a lack of access to menstrual products, often having to resort to home- made alternatives.

While government, with the aim of making menstrual products more affordable, dropped the 15% Value Added Tax on menstrual products in 2019, the cost of basic sanitary pads remains a burden for the vulnerable. It is estimated that 3,7 million South African school girls are victims of period poverty and it is also estimated that 3 out of 10 girls miss out of school during their period.

This is why we have made it our mission to end period poverty. We believed that period poverty is an solvable social ill. However we can only eradicate is if we work together as a community and as a nation. At Socks for charity it is our mission to create a culture of giving in a mutually beneficial manner. That way you can support our cause financially and still get something in return, hence our buy one donate one model. This along with efforts made by other similar organizations will go a long way towards the end of PERIOD POVERTY
